Three Ways for Whiter Teeth
Always talk to your dentist before considering these steps, but if you are a candidate, these steps may just work for you!
1. Whitening Toothpastes--All toothpastes are designed to remove surface stains from your teeth by the action of mild abrasives that scrub the teeth. Some toothpastes contain a special ingredient/chemical that provide additional help in removing stains from your teeth. If the toothpaste has an ADA Seal on it, it contains the polishing agent that can help with removing stains. Although whitening toothpastes are great, they however, do not change the color of your teeth. They are designed to only remove surface stains.
2. In-Office Bleaching---This type of whitening is unique in the fact that it usually only requires once office visit. This procedure is called Chairside bleaching. The dentist will apply a protective gel to your gums or rubber shield designed to protect your gums. Then bleach is applied to your teeth. A light or laser is then sometimes used to enhance the whitening procedure.
3. At-Home Bleaching---This type of whitening involves either using a tray or strips that fit around your teeth. The tray usually contains a gel peroxide inside the tray. All you have to do is place the tray on your teeth. The strips however, are a mild form of bleach, the same type of chemical you would find at your dentist office, just in lower form. While this is not always the case, some who use a whitening agent can experience teeth sensitivity. This happens when the whitening agent strips the enamel off your teeth and exposes the nerve. In most cases, this is just temporary. Always consult your dentist.....but you may just need to take a break, then start again.
