Concerns for Adults Under 40
As we age, we must do an even better job of taking care of our teeth. Gum disease is when the tissue that holds your teeth in place gets inflamed. When it becomes severe, it can destroy the tissue and bone, which leads to tooth loss. Gum Disease happens when plaque (the sticky film of bacteria that forms on the teeth) constantly forms on the teeth. When it is not removed, it hardens and causes tartar. Tartar forms above and below the gumline, and makes it harder to brush and clean well between the teeth. The buildup can harbor bacteria that leads to gum disease. When you first have redness, mild bleeding, and sensitivity it is called gingivitis. Gingivitis is the only stage that is reversible.
Regular dental check ups and exams are so important to keep you from periodontal disease. Treating periodontitis really depends on how far along the condition has progressed. Keeping good oral hygiene at home is a must to keep periodontal disease from becoming more serious or recurring. Eat a balanced diet, brush and floss daily, and schedule routine dental visits to keep a lifetime healthy smile.
Bruxism, we know it as Teeth Grinding, usually occurs when you are sleeping, and you are totally unaware it is happening. It causes major damage to your teeth and jaw. Usually it comes when you are stressed, but also can be caused by sleep disorders. What your dentist chooses as a choice of treatment will depend on why you may be grinding your teeth. But in a lot of cases, you may just need to be fitted with a mouth guard to protect your teeth while you sleep. Healthy Dental Habits Linwood NJ 08221
In your jaw you have temporomandibular joints, also known as TMJ. These joints are very complexed and when a problem occurs that prevents the TMJ from working properly, the result can be very painful. It is known as TMJ disorder or sometimes TMD. It is unclear as to what causes this, but possible causes are arthritis, dislocation, injury, grinding, or teeth that are misaligned. Healthy Dental Habits Linwood NJ 08221
