What Too Look For
Most of the time we can look into the mirror and tell whether we have crooked teeth or if our bite is misaligned. But visiting your dentist will give you an even clearer picture as to what you can expect and what your options are. Your dentist will be able to tell you if the problems you see, need treatment. Your dentist will look for abnormal alignment of the teeth and/or jaw, if the appearance of the face seems abnormal, difficulty or discomfort when chewing or biting, and speech issues (possibly a lisp).
Your dentist will then refer you to an orthodontist. An orthodontist is a dentist who specializes, diagnosis, and treats crooked teeth and misaligned jaws.
So what tests will happen at the Orthodontist? First and fore-most the orthodontist will want to take X-rays, pictures of your face, and teeth impressions. All of these tests will help he or she determine if you need treatment and also of what type of treatment you may need.
X-rays will show the position of your teeth and the roots. It will also show if you have any teeth that have not erupted through the gums. There are also panoramic x-rays that can be done to show the relationship between the teeth and jaws, and jaws to the head.
Regular photographs may be taken so that the orthodontist can examine the relationship between the teeth, jaws, and head further. Fixing Crooked Teeth Linwood NJ 08221
Lastly, impressions of the teeth may be needed. A soft material is made and put into a tray. You then will bite down, and leave an impression of your teeth. This gives the orthodontist an exact copy of your teeth. Fixing Crooked Teeth Linwood NJ 08221
