Brushing & Flossing Explained For You
Sometimes we think we know what we are doing………then discover we have been doing it all wrong, for a very long time! In most cases, you just adjust, and start fresh again! And when it comes to brushing and flossing, the same would apply!
So, take a look…….make sure you are following the American Dental Association’s recommendations for brushing and flossing your teeth:
*First things first, make sure your toothbrush fits your mouth: Big mouth? Bigger toothbrush. Small mouth? Smaller toothbrush!
*Place the toothbrush at a 45-degree angle against the gum line/teeth
*Move the toothbrush back and forth, gently and in short strokes. The strokes should be one tooth-wide.
*Make sure you are brushing all parts of the tooth; the outer, inner, and chewing surfaces.
*The tip of the toothbrush should be used to clean the inside surface of the front teeth, be gentle, and go up and down.
*Lastly, don’t forget the tongue! Brushing the tongue will remove bacteria and also freshen your breath! Dental Offices Close By Linwood NJ 08221
*Choose what type of floss you like; picks or regular dental floss. If using regular floss, break off a piece about 18 inches long and wind it around the middle fingers on each hand. Pull tightly, and hold it between the thumbs and forefingers.
*Use the floss and guide it between the teeth, using a gentle rubbing motion.
*When the floss reaches the gum line, curve it where it makes a C shape against one tooth—slide it into the space between the gum line and tooth.
*Bring the floss back toward the middle part of the teeth and move it up and down the side of the tooth.
*Repeat for each tooth in your mouth, and don’t stick the very back ones! Dental Offices Close By Linwood NJ 08221
