Education for Dentists
In the United States of America, in order for a dentist to practice, they have to complete four years of dental school. This comes after earning a four-year college degree. In Dental School a graduate will receive either a D.D.S or D.M.D degree. D.D.S, Doctor of Dental Surgery and D.M.D stands for Dentarae Medicinae Doctor. Every dentist receives the same training, one degree is not better than the other.
After the dental degree is finished, two board exams must be passed in order to actually practice dentistry. The first is a National Exam, the other is a State or Regional Exam. A license to practice dentistry is then granted by the state in which the practice is located.
After the D.D.S or D.M.D degree is earned, dentists then have the option for more advanced training. Most states do not require any training beyond dental school in order for them to practice.
New York and Washington have added requirements that a dentist must have at least one year of advanced training beyond dental school. This usually is an internship or residency. Best Dentist Near Me NJ Linwood 08221
Dentists can receive this training in a general practice residency program in a hospital. There is an option of attending an advanced education general dentistry program. These are located often times in the dental school. This training would give dentists experience with different types of patients and dental procedures.
If a dentist wants to be specialists, they must rain for as many as six years after receiving a D.D.S or D.M.D. Best Dentist Near Me NJ Linwood 08221
